why was the new look so shocking in the 1950's?
Why was the new look shocking in the 1950s?
In 1945 after World War 2 had ended Christian Diors new look fashion had come out. On 12 February 1947 Dior launched his first fashion collection for Spring-Summer 'in February 1947 Christion dior bought fashion back with a fanfare when he unveiled his new season of clothes' The new look was shocking because Chistion Dior would waste his money on fabric which only rich people could afford and buy. In my opinion if Chistion Dior bought cheap fabric with the his designs the poor people would be able to buy it.
What did people wear before the new look?
The new look is clothes that was made by Christion Dior. 'We got used to skirts on the knee and no lower, and doing without turn ups on trousers' Women got used to the low skirts, material was a waste.
What was the new look?
The New look was that Christian Dior developed his own ideas and made his own garments. 'Soft sloping shoulders over cinched in waist and full skirt which came to mid calf' After the world war long skirts were out. Christian Dior's garments were over the top, really bold and eye catching.
If you were living in 1950s would you have worn the New Look or do you think it was wrong?
If i was living in the 1950's i wouldnt wear have worn the new look because at that time it was really expensive and i dont think i would have been able to afford it. The costings of Christian Diors garments were really expensive and shocking compared to the world war and ration.

History of clowns
Different types of clowns
- White face clown
- Auguste Clown
- Character Clown
White face clown
White-face clown is a classic clown, the oldest and most well-known of the clowns, and is typically the straight clown in skits.
Associated with the circus, the White-face is the most intelligent type of clown with the highest status and the ringleader. The make-up base of white grease paint meant distant audiences could see the clown.
Auguste Clown
The Auguste clown is the least intelligent, and zaniest of the clowns. The Auguste clown tends to be the silly clown in skits. Make-up is a flesh-tone base, with features outlined. The costume of the Auguste clown tends to be gaudy, mismatched, over-sized and very bright.
Character Clown
The Hobo or Tramp clown is the most popular character clown, although character clowns can be police officers, women, or babies - any character at all.
The Hobo usually has tattered clothes, a tattered hat, make-up which suggests he is unshaven, exaggerated features and a red nose. The generic Tramp character is 'down-on-his-luck'. The Tramp clown is an American creation.

1970's vs 2013
At what i found out on living in the 1970's from my mum is that during that time there was a limit of the way people would dress. 'I prefer living in 2013 because you can dress the way you want to and no one will start judging you unless in 1970s there was certain limits at dressing at a certain age and another was that 'you can do what you want and that their is no one that is superial' Both quotes both evaluate and tell me that women were left to do housewife and looking after their children. But now what mens do, women can do that better. My mum and my other interviewer that i had interviewed both said that they would prefer living in 2013 which is now as they can do whatever they want and that its freedom. Another thing mentioned in the interview was the type of clothes they would wear in the 1970's. I would prefer to live in 2013 that is now because it feels like a free world, you can do whatever you want.
