I researched on my party outfit theme and came up with one design idea which was my final outcome for my overall piece. I sketched out 10 rough design ideas and selected the one i liked and prefered more to make. i chose to make my final garment red and black because red is very eye catching, bright and classy. The top of my party garment has thick floral velvet patterns and i decided to do the bottom of my garment red. The material that i used was red lace on my garment.
I started of making a toile with my callico to the size that i wanted. I used a block for the top for the front and the back bodice. I added the seam lne and the seam allowance and marked it with a chalk. I sewed the front and the back bodice together. I then got the red lace and trimmed it a bit because it was too long and then marked it. I attached the top and the skirt and sewed it all the way down until i finished. For my garment to look visually impactive i added red sequins on the top which looked more elegant and bright.
The thing that i struggled on the most and found hard was when i was sewing into the lace during the process because it was too stretchy but eventually got there. One advantage that went well was that my final piece that i made matched my final garment matched the way i wanted it. If i was to make another party garment starting over scratch i would make a long sleeved dress with gathers at the bottom of the hands and if i have more additional time I would probably add splits on the garment. To improve it for a better look i would add beads sequins and many other materials and work on it more in depth.
